When I fall asleep

I must be careful

with my thoughts.

rivers and roads

stretch out into the lost distance.


Every dry lifeless plane

grows lush

with my wondrous curiosity.


No fences anywhere

to shut me in

or keep me out.


No chains or commands

to control my Soul.


After a while

freedom is lonely.


Then I dream you

are watching over me.


When you call me home

I come running

with my tail full of joy

and my heart full of tales.


I bow down my head

and you pat me there so gently

in the best dream of all
