There are 60 different team logo stickers to collect in this set that are numbered A1-A60 where there are 2 half logos with 2 different numbers and logos on each piece. There are another 30 Superstar Foil stickers where one player is featured per team. There are 328 regular paper glossy style stickers.
I cracked open 64 boxes (4 cases) of 2013-14 NHL Panini Stickers. Here are the numbers:
I averaged 1 Super Star Foil Sticker in every 3 packs (16-18 a box including 6 doubles). It would take you at least 3-4 boxes to get at least one of each Super Star Foil. Over 15 boxes, some stickers I only saw 3 of. Very hard to make up complete sets.
I averaged 1 Team Logo Foil per every 2
packs (22 per box including 6 doubles). It would take you about 2-3 boxes to
get at least one Team Logo of each piece.
Considering that the price per box is about $50 including shipping, realistically, it would take you about 4-5 boxes in order to make a complete set with a TON of doubles. That is a cost of $175-$250 for the average collector opening packages.
Panini keeps changing their website set up for Canada and the USA which makes it very confusing to order missing stickers. After 2 calendar years of being released, Panini’s website doubles the price to collect “missing stickers”. This 2013-14 year celebrates 52 years of Panini making stickers and 26 years (1987-2013) of making NHL stickers. Making some stickers harder to pull from packs than others makes these more modern sets even more desirable to collect for hockey collectors.
Sticker Facts
The size of each full sticker is 8 cm X
5.6 cm (3.1 in X 2.2 in). There were 50 packages in each wax box, which
originally retailed for $1 a pack. Each package contained 7 stickers (plus one promotional offer for a free virtual package of stickers). The
minimum number of packages needed to make a full set (assuming absolutely no
doubles) is 52. There is one version of the sticker album for this year so far.
The 2013 Stanley Cup winners were the Chicago Blackhawks and Patrick Kane won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the NHL Playoffs MVP.
Season Facts
This was the 96th season of operation of the NHL (95th of play). Nail Yakupov was the 1st overall draft pick and played in his first NHL season. There was no bigger news this season than the labour dispute between the players association and the team owners. The NHL finally started up on January 19th 2013 playing a total of 48 regular season games completing only 59% of a normal NHL season. Teams would only play teams from their own conferences. It was decided by the board of governors that re-alignment of the divisions would take effect for the 2013-14 NHL season. The highlights of this new system would have each team playing every other team at least twice (home and home) every year. Instead of 6 divisions there were now 4. There are now 14 teams in the WEST with Winnipeg moving WEST. Conversely, the EAST now has 16 teams where Detroit and Columbus make the move to their more natural Eastern time zone.
Martin St. Louis becomes the oldest player to ever win the Art Ross Trophy as the leagues top point getter.
Alexei Kovalev and Andy McDonald both retire from the NHL.
