Sigma EX 105mm F/2.8 OS HSM DG Lens Canon EF
The Sigma MACRO 105mm f/2,8 EX DG OS HSM is a full frame macro prime lens offering outstanding optical performance.
- Focal Length & Aperture: 105mm with a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture (minimum f/22).
- Macro Capability: True 1:1 magnification with a minimum focusing distance of 31.2 cm (12.3 inches).
- Optical Stabilization (OS): Built-in stabilisation offering roughly 3 to 4 stops of shake reduction, which includes a secondary mode optimised for panning.
- Autofocus System: Driven by a Hyper-Sonic Motor (HSM) featuring full-time manual focus override and an internal floating focus system so the physical barrel length does not change.
- Build & Handling: Weighs 725g with a 62mm filter thread size. It is primarily constructed from high-quality polycarbonate with a metal mount, though it lacks modern weather-sealing.
- Mount Compatibility: Originally produced for DSLR mounts including Canon EF, Nikon F, Sigma SA, and Sony A. It can also be easily adapted to mirrorless camera networks.
- Sharpness: Exceptional edge-to-edge sharpness. While it can present a tiny bit of softness wide open at f/2.8 in the extreme corners, it becomes razor-sharp across the entire frame when stopped down slightly to f/4 or f/5.6.
- Chromatic Aberration & Flare: Extremely well-controlled color fringing and distortion due to its Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements and Super Multi-Layer coating.
- Autofocus Speed: Reliable and quiet for stills, but generally slower than contemporary mirrorless lenses, making it less ideal for fast-paced video tracking. It features a physical 3-position focus limiter switch to minimise hunting.
- Versatility: Aside from close-up macro photography (insects, flowers, jewellery), its 105mm focal length and smooth bokeh make it an excellent compressed lens for portraiture, street photography, and film negative scanning.
