Up for auction or buy-it-now is a stunning Vintage Kingstone Hand-Carved Asian Figural Chess Set. Manufactured in Taiwan, this highly collectible set functions beautifully as both a playable strategy game and a magnificent decorative display piece.

The set features a self-contained, folding dark wood case that opens up into an ornate game board. It is decorated with beautifully rendered, hand-painted ceramic style tiles acting as the white squares. Each tile displays unique traditional Chinese figures, wildlife, and landscape artwork accented with calligraphic script seals.

Key Features

• The Case & Board: The outer perimeter of the board is framed in a deeply carved relief depicting traditional dragons navigating stylized clouds. The side panels continue the motif with carefully carved landscape and flora reliefs. It folds securely closed into a compact briefcase style for transport or shelf display.

• The Drawers & Hardware: The unit is outfitted with bright brass hinges, corner plates, and heavy-duty swing-loop handles stamped with the original golden foil label reading "Quality Goods From KINGSTONE - Made in Taiwan". Pulling the handles reveals two side drawers completely lined in brilliant red velvet/felt with integrated elastic straps to isolate and protect every individual piece.

• The Chessmen: Features 32 completely hand-carved individual pieces split into a natural/golden wood tone army and a deep mahogany/red-stained dark army. The chessmen are heavily detailed to represent an imperial court, complete with distinct emperors, empresses, scholars, warriors, guards, and pagoda structures for rooks.
