Vintage Thai Mid-Century Painting Signed “Kamala” – Lotus Boats & Traditional Thai Life
Beautiful and distinctive vintage Thai painting depicting traditional life on the water, with colorful wooden boats, lotus flowers, baskets and figures wearing traditional conical hats.
The painting is signed “Kamala” in the lower left.
The work is attributed to the relatively undocumented Thai artist known as Kamala. Other signed works by Kamala have appeared on the secondary market and have been described as Thai mid-century paintings dating approximately to the 1960s, depicting traditional Thai market and rural life.
This particular composition shows a lively water scene with several boats surrounded by lotus flowers and baskets. The bold turquoise, blue, green and terracotta palette, simplified forms and flattened perspective create a distinctive Mid-Century Modern / Expressionist appearance.
The surface appears consistent with enamel on a rigid wooden panel, although the exact medium has not been independently verified.

Please note that the artist attribution and approximate period are based on the signed work and comparison with other examples attributed to Kamala. No independent scholarly authentication has been performed.
