Beautiful large antique English ceramic jardinière / planter with an ornate twin-handled design. The front features a charming pastoral country scene depicting horses and a figure within a rural landscape, while the reverse is decorated with a colourful arrangement of roses. Finished with elaborate moulded handles, decorative rim and extensive gold/gilt detailing. The underside has an impressed mark which appears to read “CECIL – MADE IN ENGLAND – RD 603412”. Please see the close-up photograph of the mark and use the photographs as part of the description. A substantial and highly decorative piece measuring approximately: Diameter: 11" (28 cm) Height: 9" (23 cm) Condition Antique/vintage condition with considerable age-related wear. There is crazing throughout the glaze, surface marks and areas of wear to the decoration. The gold-coloured/gilt finish around the lower portion and base is quite fragile and is actively flaking/rubbing away in places. Some loose gold-coloured particles may come away when the piece is handled. There is also general loss and rubbing to the gilding, particularly around the feet/base and raised areas. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description. Despite the wear, this remains a wonderful large decorative piece with plenty of character and a particularly attractive equestrian/pastoral scene.
