This is an antique original chalkware Man in the Moon Advertising General Store String Holder.  This fella measures 6.5 inches high with his metal loop, five inches wide, and depth is 4 inches to his nose.  I read these were given away as store premiums and the Man in the Moon branding was distributed by The Regensburg Cigar Factory (E. Regensburg & Sons).  Later, the S. Fernandez & Company also sent out premiums of the same branding, but there is no identification as to which produced this one - I'm listing as the Regensburg because I can find several examples in archives.  This fella has wear, he has several nicks, dents, scratches, stains, chalk chips that are missing and scuffs.  I can also see paint loss, he must have been colorful because there are traces of brown, black and also red in his nose and face. He was probably a useful display for tobacco stores at the time!   He has no major damage, no cracks or such, and he weighs 2 pounds. We'll pack it up secure for shipping.
