Department 56 Harry Potter Village, Ollivander's Wand Shop Lit Building & Wingardium Leviosa! Figure Set with Ron and Hermione, Retired & Rare. Building and figure set are new in Dept 56 retail packaging.

The wand chooses the wizard; the feather refuses to cooperate with Ron. A complete Diagon Alley origin story in one set.

Introduction

Every wizard's story begins the same way, with a trip down a crooked cobblestone lane to a dusty little shop where thousands of narrow boxes climb toward the ceiling. This is Ollivander's, maker of fine wands since 382 B.C., where the air smells of old paper and older magic, and where a wide-eyed, eleven-year-old Harry stands waiting for the strangest interview of his life. Mr. Ollivander does not simply sell wands here; he introduces them, because as he is fond of reminding nervous first-years, it is the wand that chooses the wizard.

One by one the boxes come down. Harry gives each wand a hopeful little wave, and one by one the results range from disappointing to disastrous, until at last a wand of holly and phoenix feather sends a warm stream of red and gold sparks shooting from its tip. It is a beautiful moment and a chilling one, for Ollivander leans close and murmurs that the phoenix who gave this feather gave just one other, to the wand that left Harry with his scar. This is where magic stops being a rumor and becomes Harry's birthright.

Of course, a wand is only as good as the witch or wizard waving it, and so it is on to Professor Flitwick's Charms classroom, where the real work, and the real comedy, begins. Feathers sit on every desk, and the incantation is simple enough, or so Ron thinks as he jabs and swishes and grumbles it into submission. Beside him, an unimpressed Hermione Granger delivers the correction heard round the wizarding world: it is Wing-gar-dium Levi-O-sa, she insists, not Levio-SA, and up her feather floats while Ron very nearly sets his on fire.

Together these two pieces are the whole origin story on one shelf, the getting of the wand and the learning to wave it. Put Ollivander's beside your budding first Charms lesson and you own both halves of every wizard's beginning: the shop where the magic finds you, and the classroom where you finally, gloriously, figure out what to do with it.

About Department 56

Founded in 1976, Department 56 is the gold standard in collectible villages, celebrated for richly detailed, hand painted, illuminated buildings, animated accessories, and figure sets that blend fine artistry with storytelling. In 2018 the company launched its Harry Potter Village line, recreating the most beloved corners of the Wizarding World, from Hogwarts Castle and Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade and Privet Drive, in meticulous miniature. Every piece is lifted straight from the books and films, ready to display with the craftsmanship and authenticity that serious collectors prize.

Brought to Life by Department 56

This value set brings the beginning of every wizard's journey to your shelf in two beautifully coordinated pieces: the Ollivander's Wand Shop lit building, with its bowed glass bay windows, weathered stonework, and a warm glow hinting at shelves of enchanted wands within, and the Wingardium Leviosa! figure, capturing Hermione mid-charm, Ron mid-struggle, and a feather floating just overhead.

Bought together as a value set, with a discount for taking both, they recreate the wand shop and the very first spell, a natural anchor for any Diagon Alley or early-Hogwarts display.

A Note on Collector Value

Since 1976, one hallmark of Department 56 has defined the hobby: the annual retirement cycle. Each year a handful of buildings and figures are retired from every village line to make room for new designs, keeping the line fresh while creating the genuine scarcity that drives collector value. Once a piece is retired the mold is set aside, supply stops, and demand shifts to the secondary market. Mint condition Department 56 pieces have historically appreciated on the order of 20 to 30 percent on average, with iconic items climbing much higher, and for a culturally beloved line like Harry Potter that demand runs especially deep.

Both pieces in this set are retired (2020) and increasingly hard to find brand new, with Ollivander's Wand Shop among the most coveted discontinued buildings in the line.

Detailed Description

Department 56 Harry Potter Village, Ollivander's Wand Shop Lit Building.  For centuries, Ollivander's has been the most revered wand shop in the wizarding world, a place where wands choose their witches and wizards. Nestled in the heart of Diagon Alley, it is instantly recognizable by its curved glass bay windows and towering stacks of wand boxes, where Garrick Ollivander famously matched Harry with his first wand in 1991. This Department 56 lit building captures the quiet magic of the shop with exquisite detail: the bowed windows, weathered stonework, and warm glow from within.

Condition
Ollivander's Wand Shop is new and not displayed prior to the photography included in this listing. The entire lit building is in mint condition and comes in Department 56 Styrofoam mold and a near mint retail sleeve. Box sleeve only has a couple minor creases, which are common since the cardboard is slightly larger than the Styrofoam mold it wraps around. See clearly in photos. AC lighting unit and bulb are brand new and set contains all signs. Note that all photos of Ollivander's in this listing are of the item you are purchasing.

Product box will be packaged in bubble wrap and in a corrugated carton and then that carton will be put in a larger carton and surrounded by bio-friendly packing peanuts.

Department 56 Harry Potter Village, Wingardium Leviosa! Figure.  One of the most iconic moments from Sorcerer's Stone comes to life as Hermione Granger confidently demonstrates the levitation charm while Ron struggles to master it. The floating feather, Hermione's determined posture, and Ron's frustrated expression capture the humor and magic of their first Charms lesson. Hand-painted with crisp detail.
