Description: A magnificent beautiful, large-scale
late-Victorian / Edwardian tabletop frame featuring an incredibly crisp,
high-relief repoussé front. This item is an ornate silver table mirror frame
crafted with heavily detailed repousse relief work depicting cherubs (putti),
angels, and stylized scrolls. It features a velvet-covered easel backing to sit
freestanding on a vanity, table, or dressing counter.
The design depicts a famous classical allegorical scene: the Roman Goddess Venus (or a mythological wood nymph) resting peacefully in a lakeside garden of bulrushes and water lilies, surrounded by playful, winged putti (cherubs). So detailed, the scenes shows the cherubs hands either around angels or holding one another.
Material & Craftsmanship:
This piece showcases the exceptional quality typical of
turn-of-the-century German metalwork (such as WMF or premium Continental
guilds). The non-magnetic metal features a solid silver-toned core with a
heavy, thick pure-silver finish that brilliantly catches the sun and brightens
instantly with a light polish. Unlike standard plated items, the edges and
exposed sides retain a beautiful, uniform silver shine.
