Detailed Baltimore & Ohio Railroad operating reference reproducing Freight Working Book No. 20, revised and effective September 1, 1955.

Issued by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company Transportation Department, this freight working book contains a wealth of information relating to how B&O freight trains were scheduled, classified and routed during the mid-1950s.

The book includes freight schedules, train classifications, connections, train indexes and general instructions covering the handling of various classes of freight. The pages provide detailed schedules and operational information for numerous B&O routes and terminals, including train origins and destinations, departure times, connections, classifications and handling instructions.

The westward train index alone shows service involving locations such as Baltimore, Toledo, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Cumberland, Brunswick, Chicago, East St. Louis, New Castle Junction, Willard and many others. Later pages contain individual train schedules and classifications, making this an especially useful reference for anyone researching actual B&O freight operations.

The title page notes that Freight Working Book No. 20 was originally effective July 1, 1954 and subsequently revised effective September 1, 1955. Individual pages also show later revision dates into 1956 and 1957, reflecting updates made to the working material.

This appears to be a later reproduction of the original B&O document, rather than an original 1955 railroad-issued copy. It is approximately 8½" x 11", with blue covers protected by clear plastic and a black plastic comb binding.

A particularly useful reference for Baltimore & Ohio collectors, railroad historians, timetable collectors and prototype model railroaders interested in recreating authentic B&O freight movements and operations of the 1950s.
