Description
Very fossiliferous slab with two (2) complete juvenils Daguinaspis ambroggii (Hupé & Abadie, 1950) dorsal external molds and completely "carpeted" of Brevipelta chouberti brachiopods.
From the Lower Cambrian Souss Lagerstätte, Morocco – ~ 521–515 million years old. Featuring collective behaviour (or possible diagenetic enrollment) with exceptional overall preservation. No restoration whatsoever. A tiny preparation was made to expose the thoraxic anterior part of the biggest Daguinaspis.
MY GRADING FOR THIS SLAB: 5/5 ***** — Multiple Daguinaspis mortality slab (rare!); complete individuals,; ontogeny - from meraspis cranidia to juvenils molds; good anatomical preservation (including the rare pygidial tergite in one of the individuals); orange iron oxides substitution (signature of the Souss Konservat-Lagerstätte); association with the brachiopod Brevipelta chouberti.
Specimen ID: PAIS9520
Trilobite Size (largest juvenil Daguinaspis, for reference): 1.5 × 0.9 cm
Matrix Size: 9.7 × 7.9 cm (with part and counterpart)
Weight: 145 g
Lithostratigraphy: Upper Amouslek Formation
Age: Lower Cambrian (Series 2, Stage 3) — ca. 520–515 Ma
Biostratigraphy: Daguinaspis Zone, Issendalenian
Locality: Tazemmourt Section, northern slope of the Western Anti-Atlas, Morocco
Collected: February 2025

This scientifically significant slab presents a rare assemblage from Africa’s first and oldest Cambrian Lagerstätte — a true window into early animal community dynamics.
Note the characteristic, perfectly preserved heart-shaped cranidia of D. ambroggii specimens, even on their juvenil stage, the elegant 3D relief across the entire slab (minimal compression, indicating rapid burial conditions and early diagenetic cementation), and the conspicuous, well-preserved pleural spines, thoraxic segments of the trilobites and the growth lines of Brevilpelta chouberti — a testament to the extraordinary taphonomic fidelity of the Souss biota.
This split is not just lucky — it’s a representative sample of the world-class fossiliferous potential that defines the Cambrian Souss Lagerstätte, where soft-tissue impressions, articulated clusters, and behavioural signals are routinely preserved. And were I have the luck to do my main research :-)
Authenticity & Preparation
100% natural – no painting, no shadowing, no composite additions.
No restoration — the slab is presented exactly as collected.
Perfect for serious collectors and museums seeking a scientifically significant, display-ready Cambrian fossil assemblage. This unique plate represents the only know trilobite-bearing Lagerstätten in Africa and deserves a place in any institutional or private collection.
