Exceptional Devonian Mortality Plate - From Ancient Sea to Modern Art

This astonishing plate captures a dynamic mortality scene from the Devonian sea floor, preserving a total of ten (10) trilobites - 8 Cyphaspis walteri and 2 Gerastos izius - in their original, unaltered positions—without preferential orientation, as-found in the mountain. The result is a rare paleontological artwork full of movement and three-dimensionality.

Preparators often sacrifice one specimen to expose another. On this plate, no trilobite was damaged during preparation. Incomplete individuals, if any, were left exactly as discovered, respecting their natural context.

The specimens reveal magnificent details: fine spines, cephalic tubercles, and the expressive “DEVIL HORNS” characteristic of Cyphaspis walteri—all expertly revealed through meticulous preparation.
