Edition of 300, numbered.
The Downfall of Ibliys: a ghetto opera by MF Grimm is a slept-on jewel in the world of underground hip-hop that blends complex storytelling with raw, unfiltered emotion. Since its release in early 2002, the album has garnered a devoted following, becoming a highly coveted gem for collectors and hip-hop aficionados alike. This record is not just a piece of music but a deep narrative, reflecting Grimm’s journey through hardship, triumph, and the struggles of life in the streets. Considered by connoisseurs of the late DOOM’s discography as a parallel to Operation: Doomsday, The Downfall of Ibliys shares much of its sonic palette, led by DOOM’s signature production that creates a dark, atmospheric backdrop to Grimm’s introspective rhymes. Alongside DOOM, Count Bass D and Dr. Butcher contribute to the production, which adds to the album’s overall sonic landscape. The album also features notable guest appearances from MF DOOM, Count Bass D, and Megalon (of Monsta Island Czars), enhancing its status as an essential listening experience for any DOOM fan.

Key tracks such as “Alpha,” “Life and Death,” “Foolish,” and the two-part “Voices” demonstrate Grimm’s ability to blend gritty, street-level storytelling with moments of introspection and
vulnerability. Particularly standout is “Voices Pt. 1,” where DOOM’s feature adds an extra layer of intrigue and depth, solidifying the track’s place as one of the album’s defining moments. This long-awaited vinyl reissue of The Downfall of Ibliys: A Ghetto Opera by MF Grimm, now available through Coalmine Reissues, gives both longtime fans and newcomers the chance to experience this underground masterpiece on wax. And for those who missed it the first time, this release offers a unique opportunity to feel its full impact in a format that's truly meant to be heard.
