Description
Presented for auction is this Antique Victorian Solid Silver Propelling Pencil by Sampson Mordan & Co c.1849-1899.
This superb antique Victorian solid silver propelling pencil is by the famous maker Sampson Mordan & Co, it has a fabulous hexagonal shaped body beautifully chased with a pretty floral pattern with a ring to propel the pencil out (a/f). It has a carnelian set cap which unscrews to show a compartment for spare leads (none present) and is unpersonalised, superb quality item/craftsmanship. It is unhallmarked which is common of Mordan's work but is definitely solid silver and is marked to the body S. Mordan & Co. Please see all the additional photos as they form part of the description.
Measuring 3 3/4" long approx. it is in excellent used condition with no dents, dings, splits or repairs, the mechanism which is present doesn't propel out as the sliding ring which would propel it out has become detached and just moves up and down the body on its own (see photo 8) and it weighs 13.3grams by my electronic scales. A superb antique Sampson Mordan solid silver pencil in need of repair, please see all my other listings for more quality items. Good luck and thank you for looking.
