Heinrich Fuchs for Lorenz Hutschenreuther – “Archaïs” Vase in Rare Orange Glaze (Tall Model 5089/40)
ONLY the orange vase is for sale in this listing. The white bisque version shown in some photos is NOT included and is available separately on our profile. Photos featuring both pieces serve for scale and demonstration only.
This exceptional tall vase from the sought-after “Archaïs” series by Heinrich Fuchs represents one of the most iconic sculptural designs produced by Lorenz Hutschenreuther during the 1960s–1970s. Here, porcelain becomes relief sculpture: rhythmic, tactile, almost geological — a signature of Fuchs’ visionary approach to mid-century ceramic form.
This particular example is the rare high-gloss orange glaze with a contrasting deep blue interior, a striking and uncommon colourway that amplifies the totem-like verticality and textured surface of the Archaïs model.

About the “Archaïs” Series
Created by Heinrich Fuchs between 1965 and 1970, the Archaïs collection marked a turning point for Hutschenreuther’s design identity. With its interplay of organic relief and modernist geometry, the series brought a new sculptural language to German porcelain, echoing textures reminiscent of bark, fossils, shells, or eroded stone surfaces.
About the Designer – Heinrich Fuchs (1928–1984)
Fuchs is celebrated as one of the most forward-thinking ceramic designers of postwar Germany. His work for Hutschenreuther — including the “Calabash” and “Archaïs” series — fused natural inspiration with modern abstraction, creating pieces now widely collected for their artistic and architectural quality.
