Weeb by Lin King
Advance Reader Copy / Uncorrected Proof of the debut novel from National Book Award-winning translator Lin King.
The novel follows Rina, a recent college graduate who moves to Tokyo ostensibly to conduct academic research and teach English. Her real motivation is an intense obsession with Kagami, a character from her favorite anime, and particularly the Japanese voice actor who portrays him.
As Rina becomes increasingly involved in Tokyo's entertainment industry, Weeb explores anime fandom, identity, language, race, cultural appropriation, obsession and belonging. The publisher describes the novel as darkly humorous and recommends it for readers of Colored Television and Big Swiss.
Lin King's translation of Taiwan Travelogue received the 2024 National Book Award for Translated Literature, adding some collectible appeal to her debut novel ARC.
