Hard Times Tokens were privately issued during 1832-44.  Most were minted in copper, and are approximately the size of U. S. large cents.  Some of them advertise and name specific merchants, and others are political in nature.  This was the period of President Andrew Jackson's opposition to the Bank of the United States, and, primarily 1837-1843, included a period of economic depression (hard times).  "Low numbers" refer to the books by Mr. Low, who first published a catalog of these tokens.

Additional items can be added to the package with no additional shipping charge.
