First edition

A handsome volume, bound in contemporary half calf and gilt, and measures approx 22.2cm x 15cm x 4.7cm. The boards are a little surface worn and scuffed and the extremities are lightly rubbed and worn. The outer edges are marbled. The binding is firm and attractive. Internally, there are marbled endpapers to the front and rear. The blanks to the front and rear, and the first couple of leaves have pale patchy foxing. The contents have a little scattered foxing in places and the odd light mark. Else, in reasonable, bright and crisp condition throughout. Complete.

Philip Henry Stanhope, 5th Earl Stanhope (1805–1875), historian, antiquarian, and Tory politician. 

First edition of Stanhope's historical account of England during the reign of Queen Anne, covering the major political, military, and diplomatic events of the period, particularly England’s involvement in the War of the Spanish Succession and the events leading to the Peace of Utrecht in 1713.

First edition in handsome contemporary binding.

Shipping

  • We will gladly ship anywhere in the World.
  • We offer FREE UK domestic shipping, fully tracked and insured.
  • We use several services for overseas shipping, under 5kg usually shipped via Royal Mail Tracked. Heavier shipments or faster courier services are available, and we will do our best to accommodate your preferred method.
  • We combine shipping for multiple items (Please wait to be invoiced for multiple purchases for accurate costings).
  • We will also gladly hold purchased items to allow for larger combined shipments, (Please let us know before payment).
  • All shipping costs are weight dependent.
  • We ship at cost.

Packaging
All our books will be carefully and securely packaged in custom made book boxes (The majority of which are produced Carbon Neutral). The Bubble packaging and boxes are all recyclable, and most tape used is environmentally friendly (we are constantly researching ways to reduce our environmental impact without compromising safe, secure and affordable shipping). We aim to send all items within 24-48 hours of payment.
