Filippo Marfori Savini 1877-1952.

Filippo Marfori Savini was born in Pesaro, Urbino in 1877. Marfori Savini attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze (The Acedemy of Fine Arts in Florence), after which he became a pupil of the noted history and religious painter, Domenico Morelli (1823-1901) at his studio in Naples. Under Morelli's masterful influence, Marfori Savini developed and then perfected his technique. Numerous exhibitions followed, Florence, Rome, Milan, Turin, Venice, Paris and London. With his reputation now made 1916, the height of the World War I, became a landmark year for him. An exhibition in Florence in this year saw him receive the Society di Belle Arti silver medal for his work titled, "portrait of a lady". The same year he establishes his own Fine Art School in Florence, The Accademia Internazionale di pittura e incisioni. His contribution to the war effort was of course artistic, he produced many heroic propaganda images for the Italian nation.

Filippo Marfori Savini's work is in the very finest traditions of Italian painting, from his landscapes to colourful historic, religious and genre painting, his masterful technique is both captivating and original. 

This fine watercolour painting of Christ and The Disciples, is in it's original gilded frame, which has some shrinkage splits, with original glass and the work is signed to the lower right.

Savini's work can be found in many art galleries and museums across the world, including in Rome and Florence and also the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Filippo Marfori Savini died in 1952 in Florence.
