[FIRST EDITION] Chicago: Brant & Fuller, 1888. Stout hardcover in full leather boards. Measures xxxx inches; 873 pages, illustrated throughout with wood and steel engravings. 

Major Contents Include:

Regional Background - A short history of the American Northwest, the old Indiana Territory, and the growth of the State of Indiana.

County Settlement - Early pioneer accounts, founding details of Rushville (established in 1822), and the organization of local townships.

Biographical Sketches - Detailed life histories and family backgrounds of prominent early settlers, farmers, merchants, and local leaders in Rush County.

Binding is complete but leather boards and spine have been covered in cellophane over which hinges have been tape reinforced, as shown. In the right hands it appears that restoration is possible but it's a readable books in present condition. Interior contents are in good condition overall - all pages present and bound tight with some tanning and occasional spotting of text block. The end-sheets have been "extra-illustrated" with clippings related to prior owner, the front having an owner name cut out and other flaws. This is the original first edition with many illustrations although the wood engraving are somewhat lightly printed.
