======= ======= ABOUT THE GAME ======= =======

Zarathrusta is a 1991 multi-directional cave-flyer shooter game for the Commodore Amiga,
developed by The Whiz Kidz and published by Hewson.
Overview and Gameplay
  • Concept: The title is a portmanteau of "Zarathustra" and the 1986 classic vector game
  • Thrust. It serves as a 16-bit bitmap-graphics successor to that style of gameplay.
  • Objective: Players pilot a small spaceship through 53 cavernous alien levels,
  • using a tractor beam to collect "Klystron pods" (fuel/energy cells) from planetary
  • surfaces and tow them up into orbit.
  • Mechanics: The ship rotates 360 degrees and relies on thrust against constant
  • gravity and inertia, making navigation through tight, hostile cave networks exceptionally difficult.

  • Hazards: Players face moving cannons, laser barriers, wind tunnels, fire pits, and aggressive alien defense systems.
Key Development Details

  • Programmer: Peter Verswyvelen
  • Artist: Erlend Robaye
  • Reputation: Known as one of the most notoriously difficult gravity-inertia games on the Amiga platform, though it featured helpful additions like passwords and checkpoints. [1, 2, 3]
