This is a rare old-school Sony XK-5 cassette deck with XM-E5 stereo equalizer/amplifier, an early component-style Sony car audio system from around 1981.

This is from the era before standardized DIN-format car stereos became commonplace, making the design and installation style very different from later Sony head units.

The equipment has not been fully operationally tested. Electrical current draw was observed when power was applied, indicating that the units are not completely electrically open, but this should not be interpreted as confirmation that the system works properly.

Cassette playback, audio output, amplifier performance, equalizer controls, AMS functionality, microphone functions, and other operations remain untested.

The exterior clearly shows its age, with oxidation, scratches, discoloration, surface corrosion, and general wear. The wiring is also old and should be inspected by a knowledgeable technician before installation or further testing.

Because of its age and unknown operating condition, this set is best suited to an old-school car audio collector, vintage Japanese car restoration project, Sony audio enthusiast, or technician looking for an uncommon restoration project.

The XK-5 and XM-E5 will be sold together in their current condition. No restoration or internal repair has been performed.
