Legend suggests that perfume bottles of this design were once used as lachrymatory containers or “tear bottles.” Used by mourners, widows, and wives of soldiers, the bottles were said to store human tears in Ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian cultures. The factuality of this legend is debated, but it’s undeniable that these hand blown perfume bottles would make a gorgeous addition to your collection!

These ornate bottles are made by skilled artisans, they are hand blown using coloured and clear glass making an incredibly thin vessel, they then have a design applied to the body before being adorned with 14kt gold design accents. This bottle has ribbons of blue, red, yellow and green glass applied as candy stripes around the body and has lilac applied to the base top and stopper. The hand blown leaf-shaped glass stopper with dauber has some lilac colour applied.

This example with its stopper measures approx. 9.8cm tall. It is without damage.

A beautiful perfume bottle.
