The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is an extremely useful all-round zoom lens for Nikon DX DSLR photographers who want to cover a wide range of everyday photography without constantly changing lenses.
Its 18-105mm zoom range covers everything from wide-angle scenes and family photographs through to portraits, travel, events and more distant subjects. Combined with Nikon's VR (Vibration Reduction) and built-in SWM autofocus motor, it makes an excellent general-purpose lens.

On a Nikon DX camera, the 18-105mm range gives an angle of view broadly equivalent to approximately 27-157.5mm on a 35mm/full-frame camera. This makes the lens much more flexible than a standard 18-55mm kit zoom.
At 18mm it is useful for landscapes, interiors, architecture and group photographs. Move through the middle of the range for everyday photography and portraits, then zoom towards 105mm for tighter portraits, details and more distant subjects.
The built-in Vibration Reduction is particularly useful when shooting handheld, while Nikon's Silent Wave Motor provides internal autofocus drive on compatible Nikon DSLRs.
