Medieval cast copper alloy coin weight for a French ecu.

The weight is flat and circular with a raised design on one side of a crowned square topped shield holding three fleur de lys, the shield is flanked by single crowned fleur de lys and the entire design is contained within a pellet border. The reverse is plain.

There is a stub to one side, probably where it was attached to a casting sprue and the edge has been filed flat to either side of this. It is 14.0mm in diameter by 2.7mm thick; it weighs 3.72 grams.


Condition: High collector’s grade with a well struck obverse and has been naturally toned almost black.
