Genuine early Chicago-era Holton cornet, serial number 26280, dating to approximately 1913–1914.

This is a desirable early Holton from the company’s mature Chicago production period, featuring the ornate original engraving, hand-finished workmanship, and warm, characteristic tone associated with these vintage Holton cornets.

The valve block is stamped “PAT. OCT. 17. 11.” This is the patent date for Holton’s valve design and should not be confused with the instrument’s manufacturing date. The design was used during the early 1910s and is consistent with this cornet’s approximately 1913–1914 production date.

The horn has been recently ultrasonically cleaned and serviced, with new valve felts, corks, and springs installed. All three valves and the tuning slides move freely, and the horn has good compression. It responds easily with a nice, centered vintage tone and is a genuine player rather than simply a display piece.

There is a leadpipe repair at the joint, which is stable and clearly shown in the photographs. The repair does not currently affect playability and is fully disclosed.

A period case is included for storage and transport.
