Wavellite, a fairly rare, aluminum phosphate, is known for forming
rounded radial crystal aggregates. It's widely known to be green, but,
like Prehnite for example, lesser known colors are grey, white and
creamy white colors. At the Siglo Veinte mine in Llallagua, Bolivia(or
the Siglo XX mine, as it is sometimes referred to...), Wavellite does,
aside for green, often present in the colors white, grey and a beige
cream color. Yet, the crystals maintain a typical rounded
crystallization form, and the luster is a very "resinous" or pearly one,
a bit similar to Smithsonite, except that Wavellite is much lighter,
weight wise. Wavellites from Llallagua are very distinct and excellent
in their formation, and often will form on Quartz or with other rare
phosphate minerals, like Vauxite or Paravauxite.. This is an excellent
example for this mineral. This specimen is 4 1/4 oz in weight, or 119 grams. The size is 2.5 inch x 2 inch x 1.5 inch. Please be advised, I ship with Ground Advantage.
