A rare example in a commemorative Clydesdale Bank card folder as issued to staff as a souvenir card. This example given to a colleague in the International Branch in Buchanan St, Glasgow. Uncirculated. Serial number R/B 0999894.

The Issuer: Clydesdale Bank PLC (Scotland) whose Head Office was at 30 St. Vincent Place Glasgow G1 was once one of the commercial banks in Scotland authorized to issue its own banknotes. When this note was issued the Clydesdale Bank was an entity owned by the National Australia Banking Group. The short lived and unsuccessful acquistion didn't last long and after a peroid of financial uncertainty the Clydesdale Bank was bought out by Virgin Money. Although the Clydesdale Bank no longer exists as a banking entity, the Scottish Parliament preserved its right as a note issuing authority. As at October 2025 there's only one Virgin Money outlet banking 'suite' in Glasgow City Centre, it had four cash withdrawal machines, of which one only dispenses Clydesdale Bank notes. As a result, new issue Clydesdale Bank issued notes are excessively hard to find. I'm not greedy, but I do have a lot from £5 to the £100 horse blanket.
Historical context of this Banknote: When this note was issued the Clydesdale Bank an entity. It has since been bought out by Virgin Money and no longer exists as a banking entity. At last October (2025) there was only one Virgin Money outlet banking 'suite' in Glasgow City Centre, it had four cash withdrawal machines of which one only dispenses Clydesdale Bank banknotes.
