The Holy Bible, pocket edition, velvet and brass bound with
clasp, containing the Old and New Testaments translated out of the original
tongues and with the former translations diligently compared and revised by His
Majesty's special command. Printed London: William Collins, Sons, and Company. Although
no publishing date, the bible can be dated between 1868 and 1877.
Good overall condition, bound in full purple velvet with
gilt tooling and red lettering to the front board, gilt brass edges and working
clasp. On fine India paper, Gilt edges, externally, smart with light wear, light
discolouration and rubbing to the spine. Minor marks to the boards with minor
losses of velvet colour to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are
bright with little discolouration. Inscribed, Presented by Harriet Porter, to
her friend Thomas C. Carmell, August 27th, 1877. Original page marker. Condition commensurate with age and wear.
