Vintage USS Yorktown CVS-10 Apollo 8-era grouping from the personal archive of Joe L. “Jack” Day.

This listing includes 3 pieces:

1 – USS Yorktown CVS-10 “Town Crier”
December 20, 1968 – Volume 1, Number 9

Original period USS Yorktown publication featuring an Apollo spacecraft/capsule at sea on the cover.

The date is particularly significant: this issue was published immediately before the historic Apollo 8 mission, which launched December 21, 1968.

Apollo 8 became the first crewed spacecraft to orbit the Moon. The mission returned to Earth on December 27, 1968, with the crew and spacecraft recovered by the USS Yorktown CVS-10.

2 – Vintage USS Yorktown CVS-10 “The Fighting Lady” Decals/Stickers

Two vintage decals featuring the USS Yorktown CVS-10 crest and “The Fighting Lady.”

These decals originated from the same Jack Day archive as the Town Crier. They are vintage pieces; however, an exact production date is not stated on the decals and no specific year is being represented.

JACK DAY ARCHIVE PROVENANCE

All three pieces originated from the personal archive of Joe L. “Jack” Day, associated with NASA’s Manned Spacecraft Center and biomedical/physiological instrumentation work during the U.S. human spaceflight program.

The combination of the December 20, 1968 Town Crier, USS Yorktown decals and Jack Day archive provenance makes this an interesting period grouping relating to the ship that recovered the Apollo 8 crew.
