Vintage Heathkit CT-1 Capaci-Tester Capacitor Tester – Tested & Working as Described

Vintage Heathkit Model CT-1 Capaci-Tester, manufactured by Heath Company of Benton Harbor, Michigan. Classic electronic service instrument designed for detecting open, shorted and intermittent capacitors.

This example is in very nice overall cosmetic condition for its age. The front panel graphics and lettering remain clean and legible, the selector knob and carrying handle are intact, and the green electron-beam “magic eye” indicator tube illuminates brightly. Please see photos for exact cosmetic condition.

TESTING PERFORMED:

The unit was powered on and allowed to warm up. The magic-eye tube illuminated brightly. The tester was then checked using open and short conditions at the test leads/terminals. The eye indicator responded to the open and short conditions as shown in the photographs. The selector switch was operated through the test/check positions and functioned during this testing.

The tester has not been professionally calibrated, serviced or comprehensively tested with capacitors of known values, so it is being represented only as tested and working to the extent specifically described above.

TEST LEADS:

The original test leads had deteriorated with age and are not included. The CT-1 uses standard banana-type front connections, so readily available banana-plug test leads with suitable clips/alligator clips can be used as replacements. The original red and black threaded terminal caps/binding-post hardware remain with the tester.

The attached AC power cord appears intact with no exposed conductors or cracking observed.

A digital copy of the original Heathkit CT-1 assembly and operating manual is readily available online. No printed manual is included with this sale.

This is vintage electronic test equipment and should be used by someone familiar with the proper operation and safety precautions associated with vintage electronics.

Included: Heathkit CT-1 Capaci-Tester only. Replacement test leads, capacitors and other testing accessories shown in some photographs are not included.
