Early Bewlay “QUAINT” LONDON MADE
Looks like a Charatan, or Barling, Sasieni
c1930’s-40’s, Stout Sandblast Bulldog
Ring-Grain, Saddle Stem, Great Shape!

Offering a wonderful looking early Bewlay pipe, which is a “QUAINT” model, and marked LONDON MADE. The “House of Bewlay” was a chain of better tobacco shops, which carried pipes made for them by Barling’s, Loewe, Sasieni, Orlik and Charatan. This pipe was made by one of these prime pipe makers. It is a real gem to my eye. The scale is big, and has the look of a Charatan Freehand in scale and design, to my eye. The bowl has a deeply sandblasted finish, which brought out ring-grain patterns surrounding the bowl. It’s an extra-scale bulldog, with fat thick-walled bowl and diamond shank, and saddle cut stem. It’s in great condition. The bowl exterior is in amazing condition, no noted wear, and no issues. The interior of the bowl is well-seasoned, and the draw hole is bottom off-center. The stem appears original, with a reminiscent of Charatan in styling. It has a hint of wear and discoloration, is a non-filter design with no stinger. Weighs in at 1.75 ounce, 56.7 grams. Overall, this is an excellent early pipe, highly recommended!
