A particularly striking vintage Austrian Trachten jacket / Janker by H. Moser – Mode aus Salzburg, made in Austria.

Rather than a conventional rustic Trachten jacket, this piece has an unusually clean, almost architectural silhouette with strong military and traditional Austrian tailoring influences. The muted olive / khaki colour, contrasting light trim and elaborate metal buttons give it a distinctive appearance that works equally well as Alpine heritage clothing or as a contemporary statement jacket.

The construction is especially beautiful: a short stand collar, four-button front, symmetrical flap chest pockets, piped lower pockets and a sculptural rear half-belt. A small embroidered ornament sits above the centre back pleat.

THE LABEL

The interior label reads:

“Mode aus Salzburg – by h. moser”

The garment was made in Austria and belongs to the tradition of Salzburg Trachten clothing: garments that combine regional Alpine dress with tailored everyday and occasion wear.

H. Moser / Mode aus Salzburg pieces can still be found on the vintage Trachten market today, particularly jackets, waistcoats, dresses and linen garments. This jacket is especially interesting because of its restrained colour palette and unusually uniform-inspired design.

STYLE / USE

An excellent piece for:

Austrian Tracht • Alpine Heritage • Oktoberfest • Bavarian / Austrian styling • vintage menswear • hunting-inspired styling • heritage tailoring • military-inspired fashion • statement dressing • collector wardrobes

What makes this jacket particularly interesting is the balance between traditional Austrian dress and an almost minimalist uniform aesthetic. It feels considerably sharper and more unusual than a typical Trachten blazer and can easily be worn outside a traditional folk-dress context.
