IEC C14 to C15 Extension Lead — 1 Metre, High Temperature Notched Keyway, 10 A

Quick Specs & Highlights

  • IEC C14 male plug on one end, IEC C15 female socket on the other — an in-line extension for an IEC power cord you already own
  • No wall plug. This is an IEC-to-IEC lead. It plugs into the end of an existing power cord — it does not connect to a power point on its own
  • C15 keyway (notched) socket — the hot-condition connector, rated to 120°C, with the locating groove that a plain C13 does not have
  • Fits a C16 hot-condition inlet AND an ordinary C14 inlet, so it works where a standard kettle-lead socket will not go in at all
  • H05RR-F 3G1.0 mm² rubber-sheathed flex, 300/500 V — rubber, not PVC, which is why it belongs near heat
  • Rated 10 A / 250 V, three-core with earth
  • Black, fully moulded connectors at both ends
  • 1 metre long
  • Adds a short amount of reach in a rack or behind a cabinet

Product Overview

An extension lead for IEC power cords. One end is an IEC C14 male plug; the other is an IEC C15 female socket with the notched keyway. You plug the C14 end into the socket on the end of a power cord you already have, and the C15 end goes to the appliance — so the run gets longer without replacing the original cord.

Read this part before ordering: there is no wall plug on this lead. Both ends are IEC connectors. It cannot reach a power point by itself and it is not a replacement mains cord. It is the piece you add in between an existing cord and the appliance when the cord you have is simply too short. If what you actually need is a complete lead running from an Australian power point to a C15 socket, that is a different product and this is not it — the first and last images show both ends clearly.

What the notch is for. The C15 socket is the hot-condition member of the IEC 60320 family, rated to 120 °C where an ordinary C13 kettle socket is rated to 70 °C. The groove moulded into the body is a mechanical key: an appliance with a C16 inlet — the hot-running kind — will accept a C15 and will physically refuse a C13. That is deliberate, and it is the whole reason the two connectors exist side by side. Because the keyway only adds a groove, a C15 also drops straight onto a normal C14 inlet, so this lead covers both cases where a plain kettle-socket extension would only cover one.

The flex is the other half of the story. This cord is H05RR-F — rubber insulation over rubber sheath, three cores at 1.0 mm², 300/500 V. Ordinary power cords are H05VV-F, which is PVC, and PVC softens and deforms when it sits against something hot. Rubber does not. Putting a PVC extension between a hot appliance and its supply undoes the point of the hot-condition inlet, which is why the whole lead is built this way rather than just the end.

Where it gets used. Kettles and urns, projectors, and catering or lab equipment with a notched C16 inlet. It is equally at home in a rack: server, switch, UPS and PDU inlets are C14, so it works as a straight jumper between a distribution unit and a device, with the temperature rating as headroom rather than a requirement. It is also the usual answer for a console or AV brick whose cord will not quite reach.

This listing is for one 1 metre lead. A metre is the short rung — it suits a rack jumper, or bridging the last stretch behind a cabinet or bench. If you need to cross a room, the 2 metre and 3 metre versions are listed separately.

The C15 end fits a C16 hot-condition inlet and also an ordinary C14 inlet. The C14 end fits any C13 or C15 socket — that is the socket on the end of a standard kettle-type power cord.
