This is the desirable early PS3 model with hardware-based PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility.

Modification

This console has an aftermarket modification installed.

There is a digital fan/temperature controller mounted into the top of the console. The display powers on and shows temperature/fan information and adjustable fan-speed settings.

I do not know:

• Who installed the modification
• What brand/model the controller is
• Exactly how it is wired
• Whether all functions of the modification work correctly
• What other internal modifications may have been performed

The original front memory-card area has also been altered. The openings marked CF, SD/miniSD and Memory Stick PRO are still present, but the normal card-reader components do not appear to be installed behind the openings. Wiring associated with the modification can be seen inside this area.

Please assume the memory-card reader functions are missing, disconnected, modified or non-working.

Testing

The console was connected to power and does power on.

The aftermarket fan controller/display also powers on.

After the console is switched off, a green indicator/button remains or appears illuminated. I do not know why this happens or whether it is related to the modification.

No further testing has been completed.

Cosmetic Condition

Console has noticeable cosmetic wear from age and previous use.

There are:

• Numerous scratches on the glossy black exterior
• Scuffs and surface marks
• Wear around the console
• Modification/cutout on the top for the fan controller
• Modified/incomplete front memory-card reader area
