7 Byron St,
Cwmanaman
Aberdare
Message: Dear Maggie & Hubby & Baby,
I thought I would
just send you a P.C.
to show I have not forgotten
you. I was so sorry to hear
that Baby has been ill, I
do hope he is better now.
This is a view of the Park where I spend Wednesday’s.
Lot of love from Dot.
The image dates to circa 1909–1914, originating from the late Edwardian era.
The Lake's Construction: The land itself was acquired in 1889, but the lake was constructed as part of an unemployment relief scheme and completed in 1909
Fashion & Production: The Edwardian attire of the visitors—such as the long floor-length skirts, tailored coats, and distinct wide-brimmed hats—aligns perfectly with this narrow pre-WWI window. Similar series printings of this exact Viner & Co Postcard were heavily produced and postmarked between 1909 and 1914
The Facilities: In its heyday, the site operated like a mini-village, equipped with a gymnasium, swimming pool, dormitories, church, a canteen, a cinema, and various sports fields.
The Closure: The camp was requisitioned for military use during World War II. Following the subsequent decline of the Welsh mining industry and the rise of affordable commercial holidays, the camp closed permanently in 1990, and has since become a well-known derelict ruin.
The card has some very light wear and buffeting commensurate withage, apart from which it is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, writing or other obvious flaws..
