Scarce vintage Dutch Garden Peanut Brittle heavy paperboard advertising container featuring wonderful old-fashioned candy-store graphics.
The cylindrical container is constructed of heavy printed paperboard/fiberboard, rather than metal, and retains its clear plastic lid. The front features the DUTCH GARDEN name above large PEANUT BRITTLE lettering, an illustrated Dutch woman, red striped borders and turquoise accents.
Marked:
“Made With Creamery Butter”
The side identifies the manufacturer as:
LECAS CANDY MFG. CO.
PANA, ILLINOIS
Originally held one pound of peanut brittle. The printed ingredients include peanuts, butter, sugar, glucose, salt and soda.
The bottom edge carries a Continental Can Company manufacturing mark and states Made in U.S.A. Despite the company name, this particular container is made primarily from heavy paperboard/fiberboard rather than tin or metal.
This is an especially attractive piece of regional advertising for collectors of Pana and Illinois memorabilia, vintage candy packaging, country store advertising, general store displays, kitchen advertising and mid-century food packaging.

Condition
Good vintage display condition with substantial authentic age and storage wear. Paperboard shows toning, staining, spotting, scuffs, surface wear and discoloration. Graphics remain bright and attractive overall.
The clear plastic lid has a chipped/notched area along the rim, as photographed. Interior shows staining, discoloration and general age-related soiling. No attempt has been made to aggressively clean or restore the piece.
