with Palmer incarcerated.
William Palmer (6 August 1824 – 14 June 1856), also known as the Rugeley Poisoner or the Prince of Poisoners, was an English doctor and murderer. A court convicted him for the 1855 murder of his friend John Cook, whom he had poisoned with Strychnine. He was also suspected of poisoning several other people including his brother and his mother-in-law, as well as four of his children. Palmer made large sums of money from the deaths of his wife and brother after collecting on life insurance, and by defrauding his wealthy mother.
Palmer was hanged in public the year following his conviction, Charles Dickens called Palmer "the greatest villain that ever stood in the Old Bailey.
The
Illustrated Times
was a British weekly newspaper published from 1855 to 1872. It was
created by bookseller David Bogue and edited by Henry Vizetelly to
rival the wildly successful Illustrated
London News.
The publication featured high-quality wood engravings that
documented all facets of Victorian life, disasters, and news
At
the time of publication of this newspaper in
1855,
the
British Empire had recently ended Crimean War and was expanding its
colonial footprint.
Crimean
War:
British and French forces continued their campaign against Russia,
culminating in the capture of the southern forts of Sevastopol

THIS ISSUE IS FROM SHORTLY AFTER PEACE WAS DECLARED
This was fairly soon after the time of the time of the IRISH POTATO FAMINE By 1855, the immediate devastation was transitioning into an era of massive emigration, fundamentally reshaping the demographics and political landscape of Ireland and Britain Which led to a rise in the 'Fenian Movement, and calls for Home Rule
This
was also the height of the
BRITISH
RAJ, and has articles on INDIA and the Sub Continent
–
AMONG OTHER ARTICLES AND ILLUSTRATIONS include the FOLLOWING
Articles and Illustrations on the CRIMEAN WAR PEACE CELEBRATIONS
Articles and Illustrations on the PARIS AND FRANCE FLOODS

PLUS SOME REALLY INTERESTING CRIME REPORTS
These
are all marked in BLUE below
This came to me in a bound volume of the year's magazines, which, unfortunately, had too much damage to the spine and cover to sell as a whole – It seemed a shame to throw these papers away, particularly as they have some marvellous etchings of early Victorian life. Hence, I have removed them from the volume and am selling them at a low start price.
