Japanese Vintage Tome Kanna Miter Plane
This is a vintage Japanese tome kanna, a specialized hand plane used in traditional woodworking.
Unlike a standard flat kanna plane, this type has a special body shape suited for angle work and fine adjustment of mitered joints.
It is commonly associated with box making, frame work, sashimono-style joinery, fittings, and other fine woodworking where clean mitered edges are important.
This is a highly specialized Japanese woodworking tool, and examples like this are becoming harder to find today.
The blade is engraved with the Japanese characters “大和魂” (Yamato Damashii), which can be translated as “Japanese spirit” or “Yamato spirit.”
This engraving gives the tool a strong traditional Japanese character and makes it especially appealing as a collectible woodworking tool.
