Note that number in brackets in auction title is only my inventory number for this lot
Note that there is a repair on this trilobite and its in a bit of rough condition. This is very common with these as it vey hard to dig these out without breaking them. But it is original and Ordovician age (Except for the glue)
Trilobites were a type of arthropods that lived in shallow seas. One of the earliest known forms of advanced creatures they existed from at least the early Cambrian (Oldest known Trilobite is from 521 million years ago), and they flourished throughout the lower Paleozoic era before beginning a drawn-out decline to extinction when they became extinct in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian about 252 million years ago. Trace fossils from Pre Cambrian times are also often believed to be from Trilobites but it is only a theory as there are no known Pre Cambrian trilobites - possibly they never had hard shells would explain that. Either way Trilobites are among the most successful creatures ever to inhabit our planet - and with more than 20,000 known species they can create a collectible in their own right. Every fossil collection needs Trilobites.
