This is an original and interesting piece of militaria in several regards:

Originally this type of map cases were introduced in 1944 for use by the British army in the tropics. It is made from a dark green cotton webbing and features a pen pocket to front and a celluloid sheet to the centre. Brass pop studs are used to close the case and are all fitted with leather washers.

This map case also is dated 1944 and produced by B. MFG. CO. LTD. However, this particular case, despite its British origin was used by the Israel Defense Forces in the early years of the existence of Israel during Arab–Israeli War, since IDF did not have its own map cases. Thus this map case contains not only its original British production markers (date, company, British army arrow sign) but also the IDF logo imprint on the case.
