A BATHING APE x G-SHOCK G-5500, the collaboration released in December 2010 and sold out immediately. The base is the G-5500, which revives the design of the DW-5500 of 1985, and BAPE reworked it throughout: red buttons on the left side, blue buttons on the right, a white star and lightning STA motif running along the band, and "A BATHING APE 1993" with the Ape Head moulded into the band keeper.
[Ape Head Backlight]
The signature detail of this collaboration is in the backlight. Press the light button in the dark and the Ape Head appears across the illuminated display, as shown in the photos. It is invisible in normal light.
[Movement & Technology]
Quartz digital movement, module No. 3062, powered by Tough Solar light charging with a power saving function and a three-level battery indicator. Please note that this is Tough Solar only. It does not receive radio time signals and has no Bluetooth, so the time is set manually.
[Functions]
World time, stopwatch, countdown timer, alarm with hourly time signal, full auto calendar, 12/24-hour format switching, power saving function, and the EL backlight described above.
[Case & Bracelet]
Resin case, bezel and band with shock resistant construction and a stainless steel case back. Water resistant to 20 bar (200 m) as rated when new; as with any watch of this age the gaskets have aged, so we recommend a pressure test before any water use. Resin strap with a stainless steel buckle marked CASIO JAPAN.
[Note on the Solar Battery]
This watch charges a rechargeable secondary battery rather than using a replaceable cell. The watch is charging and running normally, but on a watch from 2010 the secondary battery no longer holds a charge the way a new one does and may need replacing at some point. This is normal for any older Tough Solar model and is reflected in the price.
[Condition]
Pre-owned but used only a handful of times. Clean and running, with the Ape Head backlight working. The outer box shows storage wear. Please see the Condition section above and all photos, which form part of the description.
[Included Items]
Watch, original A BATHING APE box, instruction manual and warranty certificate. The warranty certificate is a Japanese domestic warranty and is valid in Japan only, so it cannot be used for service outside Japan. It is included as part of the original set.
