Description

Authentic vintage Alpine Trachten Dirndl set, most likely Austrian, dating to approximately the 1960s. The set includes a traditional dress, matching jacquard apron and cropped wrap blouse. No maker's label is present.

The black traditional dress made from wool blend. The fitted black bodice features decorative Edelweiss-style metal buttons, while the actual closure is concealed behind the front placket with snap fasteners. Below the bodice, the traditional front opening continues toward the hip area and is completely hidden beneath the apron when worn.

The bodice is finished with decorative floral braid that still retains subtle traces of its original metallic shimmer, adding an elegant period detail. The interior is fully lined with white cotton.

A distinctive feature of the dress is the contrast between the bodice and skirt fabrics. The skirt is made from a soft black fabric with an unusual crepe-weave texture. Rather than being stiff, it drapes naturally and follows the body's contours with a graceful silhouette while the woven texture adds depth and character.

The matching apron is made from an elegant floral jacquard fabric with a beautiful soft sheen, likely a silk-blend natural-fiber fabric. It fastens with decorative metal waist fittings connected by an adjustable chain. Included is a charming vintage heart-shaped brooch holding a small fabric sachet filled with dried herbs or other botanical material (contents unknown), included as a delightful vintage accessory.

The traditional cropped blouse is made from fine white cotton with lace trim. Its wrap-front construction allows it to sit neatly beneath the bodice. The lower inside edge is reinforced with sturdy cotton tape, and two button positions on each side allow the bottom width to be adjusted for a better fit.

Condition

Very good vintage condition. The dress presents beautifully with only light signs of age. There is minor wear to several gathering stitches where the skirt is attached to the waist, along with a small area of fabric thinning at the lower end of the concealed front opening, which remains hidden beneath the apron when worn. The white cotton lining has a few faint yellowish age/storage marks. The decorative braid retains only traces of its original metallic finish, consistent with age. The apron is in excellent vintage condition, with only two small rust-colored marks on the cotton reinforcement tape on the reverse of the waistband, completely hidden during wear. The blouse is in excellent condition with only a tiny flaw in the lace near a button loop, which is concealed when worn and approx. 1 cm of loose stitching at the sleeve underarm seam. Overall, this is a beautifully preserved and increasingly uncommon vintage Austrian Trachten ensemble, retaining its original character and quality craftsmanship.
