Offered is an attractive antique Mahjong set estimated to date from approximately the 1920s–1930s. The set includes carved and coloured bone-faced tiles with bamboo backing, counting or betting sticks, and a fitted wooden storage box.
The lid features a decorative reproduction of Cecil Aldin's hunting scene commonly titled The Fallowfield Hunt: Breakfast at the Three Pigeons. The artwork bears a 1900 date. This date refers to the artwork and should not be interpreted as a confirmed manufacture date for the box.
Antique pre-owned condition with visible wear consistent with age and previous use. One tile is missing a portion of its bamboo backing, as clearly shown in the photographs.
The wooden box has scratches, finish wear, small chips, edge wear and other age-related cosmetic marks. The front latch hardware remains attached, but the corresponding locking connection or catch is missing, so the box cannot be securely latched closed.
Completeness for any particular regional Mahjong ruleset has not been independently verified. The listing is based on the physical count of 140 tiles and 113 sticks. Materials are identified from their appearance and traditional construction and have not been laboratory tested.
The exact set and all contents shown in the photographs are what will be shipped. Please review every photograph carefully for tile selection, condition, artwork and included pieces before purchasing.
