The Quest of the Holy Grail, A Series of Paintings, Russell and Son (1895). Edwin Austin Abbey was an American artist, illustrator and muralist.  His most famous work was a set of murals, painted in the 1890's, which adorn the Boston Public Library.  This book contains an account of Abbey's inspiration for the 11-year project: the origin and evolution of the story of the quest for the Holy Grail. Reproductions of the massive paintings are included. Make no mistake, this 130-year old book is in very delicate condition. The illustrated hard cover is splotched and soiled.  The edges are worn, especially along the bottom.  The paper covering on the back has bubbled (see pic #2). The hinges are intact, but the binding is loose, allowing some of the pages to become partially detached.  An owner's name and a date are inked on the flyleaf page.  No other markings appear on interior pages, but smudges are found in most of the margins.  All text and illustrations are clear and neat.
