Gilded Figures: Studies in Memory and Form – No. 1

This original mixed-media piece examines the enduring language of the classical figure through fragmentation, memory, and transformation.

The central figure is derived from my own original classical drawings, reproduced and recontextualized within a layered mixed-media surface. Through collage, mark-making, and the addition of gold and pigment, the figure shifts from study into a new and singular composition, no longer fixed, but suspended between past and present.

Rendered in a restrained palette of black, white, and gray, the composition is interrupted by a fragment of gold. These elements serve symbolically, recalling sacred and iconographic traditions while creating tension between permanence and impermanence, presence and absence.

Architectural fragments and spatial ambiguity further destabilize the scene, allowing the figure to exist not within a defined setting but within a constructed visual memory.
