Original watercolour painting of a West Country harbour, by renowned artist Peter Stuckey. This beautifully vibrant and evocative painting depicts a sheltered harbour with a sandy beach, boats, quayside houses and people, reminiscent of summer days past.

Peter John Stuckey (1921-2013), is a renowned mid-20th-century painter.

Size: 30 inches long x 16 inches high

Condition: There are a few areas where the painting has a crease or dent, and one tiny puncture, this is repairable in the right hands. However, they do not draw the eye and do not detract from the imagery. A very rare one off opportunity here.  

Background: Stuckey specialised in aviation subjects, drawing military and commercial craft at close quarters, including marine helicopters, historic biplanes and Concorde at Yeovilton in 1978.

He equally excelled at nautical drawing, creating images of sailing boats, tall ships and regattas, and authoring a handbook on Sailing Pilots of the Bristol Channel.

Stuckey approached all these subjects with a distinctive drawing technique. He worked as a graphic designer and possessed a Licentiateship of the Society of Industrial Designers. Working mainly in black ink with a fairly blunt tipped pen, his drawing style is one of staccato, broken lines, which creates a soft-focus effect and often lends an evocative, rustic quality to his subjects. The addition of watercolour enhances his drawings further, the generously applied washes breathing real vibrancy into coastal views.

His works can be found in the collections of Bristol Museum and Art Gallery and the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
