A vivid and characterful South Indian devotional sculpture depicting Shiva with Parvati, one of the most enduring and recognisable sacred pairings in Hindu tradition.

Shiva is shown with his key attributes. The trident, or trishula, the sacred serpent at the neck, and the river Ganga emerging from his matted hair, referencing the myth in which he receives her descent to protect the world. The third eye further emphasises his role as a cosmic force of transformation.

Parvati stands beside him in a poised and harmonious stance, richly adorned in a sari and jewellery, representing fertility, devotion, and the sustaining power of the divine feminine. Together, the figures symbolise balance, union, and protection of the household.

Originating from the Puducherry / Tamil Nadu region, this type of sculpture is traditionally made for home shrines and ritual use. Although mould-formed, the piece shows clear hand-finishing in the facial features and painted detailing. Signs of wear and handling indicate authentic devotional use over time.
