Translated by Charles Jarvis and published in London by Ward, Lock & Co. (circa 1870), this highly sought-after edition is celebrated for featuring "nearly 700 illustrations" heavily decorated throughout by the master artist Tony Johannot.

**HISTORICAL PROVENANCE:**
The front flyleaf features a stunning, crisp handwritten Victorian school prize inscription reading:
"Prize Awarded to Edwin John Parry For Machine Drawing — 3rd May 1879."

**CONDITION DETAILS:**
- **Cover & Spine:** There is a visible tear along the cloth spine cover edge (please view all photos closely). Despite this cosmetic split, the binding framework is strong, and the boards are completely secure.
- **Boards:** Original green cloth with striking black-stamped detailing and bright gold gilt illustration/titles on the front cover. Minor bumping/rubbing to corners.
- **Interior:** The pages show standard vintage toning/foxing consistent with a 150+ year-old book, but the text and woodcut illustrations remain clean, highly detailed.
