1925 Frank Holton & Co. “Holton-Clarke” Model Bb Cornet — Elkhorn, Wisconsin
Serial #62256, which dates this horn to 1925 per Holton’s factory serial records. This is the Herbert L. Clarke signature model, made during Holton’s Elkhorn era, and carries the “New Proportion” patent stamp (Pat. Oct. 17, 1911) on the leadpipe.
Condition & Servicing:
• Recently chem/ultrasonically cleaned
• New water key corks and valve springs installed
• Excellent compression — all three valves and slides move freely and smoothly
• Valve casings individually numbered 1/2/3, matching the main serial
• Silver plate shows honest age and tarnish consistent with a 100-year-old instrument; no buffing done to preserve original engraving detail
• Minor ripple in the bell flare — cosmetic only, does not affect tone or intonation
• Original hard case included (Frank Holton & Co. “Makers of High Grade Band Instruments” medallion badge) — case shows wear and some interior lining damage, shown in photos
• Includes a York “Al-Tru” 2M mouthpiece
A genuinely great-playing 1920s American cornet with real compression and free-moving valves — not a wall-hanger. Please review all photos closely as they are part of the description. Ships securely insured.
